In 1987, Fukuvi Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. established the Precision Optical Coatings and Polymerization Division. The inspiration behind this new division was to produce interesting new products using the knowledge gained from working in the building materials industry. Ultimately, the division created Harzlas AR using Fukuvi's newly developed coating technology, which could produce high transparency and low reflectance optical panels. These sheets have up to 99% transparency and became a new sought-after product in various industries seeking improved optical properties for their products. In addition, Harzlas could be made water and oil repellent, as well as resistant to degradation from sweat and saline solutions. From these characteristics, Harzlas has been adopted by multiple industries including the automotive industry for displays and car meters, the medical industry for display covers, as well as camera and cellphone manufacturers for use as camera lens and sensor covers.
